The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Expands Mandate to Strengthen Ontario’s Auto Sector

Ontario Invests $73 Million to Strengthen Ontario Companies’ Role in the Global Automotive and Mobility Supply Chain

(October 29, 2025) TORONTO, ON – The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), led by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI), is accelerating the development and adoption of next-generation automotive and mobility technologies across Ontario. With the Ontario government having extended its investment in the program with a $73 million commitment, OVIN will continue to focus on scaling Ontario-based companies, advancing research and development, and strengthening the province’s global competitiveness in connected, electric, and autonomous vehicle technologies.

Delivered over four years, this renewed investment into OVIN signals Ontario’s steadfast commitment to the automotive and mobility sector, fostering resilience, innovation and global competitiveness. To date, the initiative has supported over 750 Ontario companies, helped to create and support over 7,500 jobs, and catalyzed over $1 billion in private sector investment.

“Ontario’s auto sector is not only a source of pride, but the foundation for our economic resilience and future prosperity,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Through our government’s renewed investment in OVIN, we’re building on the momentum across our province’s auto manufacturing industry, and ensuring our workers, suppliers, and innovators have the tools they need to drive growth, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen our economy for decades to come.”

Building on this momentum, OVIN is launching strategic new initiatives designed to fundamentally strengthen the global automotive supply chain of the future and cement Ontario’s position as a world leader. These new initiatives focus on scaling Ontario-based companies and deploying Ontario-made technologies into global markets.

“Ontario has emerged on the world stage as the leader in shaping the future of the global automotive sector. We’re leveraging our strengths, resources, infrastructure and partnerships, to ensure our companies are bringing to market the leading-edge solutions that will transform how we move people and goods.” said Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN at the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). “This renewed investment in OVIN reinforces the Ontario government’s commitment to strengthening domestic companies in global supply chains, supporting innovation, and ensuring our industry remains at the cutting-edge of technology.”

Among these new initiatives is the major expansion of the OVIN Incubators program, featuring new industry partners and enhanced programming to rapidly accelerate the growth of new ventures and catalyze the integration of cutting-edge technologies.

“This renewed investment in OVIN builds on Ontario’s unmatched momentum in automotive innovation,” said Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). “Through OVIN, with support from the government of Ontario, OCI is strengthening Ontario’s position as a global hub for next-generation mobility by connecting industry, academia, and government to accelerate commercialization, grow homegrown companies, and create the skilled jobs that power Ontario’s future.”

OVIN will also establish clear pathways for Ontario companies to enter global markets through the Going Global initiative, forging strategic partnerships with key jurisdictions worldwide. In addition to new programing, OVIN will continue to advance research and development (R&D) collaborations through its R&D Partnership Fund, operationalize Regional Technology Development Sites across the province, and support demonstration and piloting zones to support Ontario companies throughout their journey from concept to market.
