August 1, 2023 – Swap Robotics is pleased to welcome a $789,723 investment from the Ontario government through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN). This funding is in addition to the $1,579,447 investment Swap has received from the private sector to support a total project value of $2,369,170. In partnership with OVIN and the Town of Innisfil, Swap Robotics will use this funding to develop and commercialize robotic snowplows.

Swap Robotics has demonstrated robotic sidewalk snow plowing can be done in a way that increases safety and helps address low supply of available snowplows during winter storms. The company has partnered with the Town of Innisfil to conduct real time testing during adverse winter weather conditions, which Swap Robotics develop a snowplow with five to 10 times the pushing power of its predecessors. Swap’s robots are now operating across Ontario in Cookstown, Kitchener, Waterloo, Brampton and in Thompson, Manitoba.

Quotes

“This project allowed us to de-risk and rapidly test out new designs and technologies in our robots through funding for both material and labour costs. As such, we have advanced through multiple iterations of our robots and have arrived with a machine that is able to effectively remove sidewalk snow.”

– Andrew Cullar, Head of Operations, Swap Robotics

“Companies like Swap Robotics are developing innovative solutions to real-world problems right here in Ontario. Through OVIN, our government is helping companies bring innovative and exciting new technologies to market. Congratulations, Swap Robotics!”

– Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade

Quote from Minister Mulroney

“It’s the combination of autonomy with the necessary physical strength of the machine and the green alternative to fuel that will make this a winning innovation for municipalities in the future.” – Nicole Bowman, Director of Operations, Town of Innisfil

“Ontario has the most innovative companies in the world that are applying technology to solve real-world problems”, said Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN. “This partnership is another great example of how Ontario is ensuring that our companies commercialize leading-edge solutions and getting them to market”.

About Swap Robotics

Swap Robotics was started in October 2019. It has quickly grown to become the clear world leader in outdoor robotics for multiple work purposes. As of 2021, there were a dozen paid 100% electric, commercial-ready robots in the fleet, more than any other robotics company for snow removal. As of Spring 2022, our primary focus is on solar vegetation cutting robots. We’re working with several of the largest solar asset owners and solar O&M providers from North America & Europe.
