Markham, Ontario (August 20, 2026). DashCharger Technologies Ltd., a Canadian innovator in smart electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management software, is proud to receive support from Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) R&D Partnership Fund to advance rural electrification and smart EV charging infrastructure. DashCharger is developing this technology in partnership with EG Energy Management Inc. The project will deploy a smart Distributed Energy Resource (DER) microgrid at Pine Point Farms to help address grid capacity and reliability challenges that can limit EV adoption and agricultural modernization in rural communities.

The project represents a total investment of nearly $450,000, including $100,000 from the Province of Ontario through OVIN and nearly $350,000 in industry contributions from DashCharger Technologies and EG Energy Management Inc.With over 300,000 rural customers facing Hydro One capacity constraints, upgrading localized transformers for high-power demands like multi-port EV charging remains a costly and time-consuming barrier. Through this OVIN supported project, DashCharger’s solution addresses this head-on by integrating a 96 kW solar PV array, a 172 kWh Lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and dual-outlet OCPP 2.0.1-compliant smart EV chargers. Managed by a cloud-hosted Energy Management System (EMS) and local edge controllers, the system features predictive energy dispatch powered by machine learning. This system aims to reduce peak grid demand by at least 50%, supply 80% or more of the required EV charging energy directly from on-site renewables, and guarantee system resilience for critical infrastructure during rural power outages.

By combining renewable energy, battery storage, smart charging, and energy management software, the project will help demonstrate a practical pathway for rural EV charging deployment and agricultural energy modernization in Ontario.
